Mass Airflow Sensor Signal Performance Fault


Possible Causes:
Intake air system is restricted, or the air filter is clogged
MAF sensor signal or ground circuit has high resistance
MAF sensor is contaminated, damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction

Mass Airflow Sensor Circuit Low Input


Possible Causes:
MAF sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
MAF sensor power circuit is open
MAF sensor is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0103

Mass Airflow Sensor Circuit High Input


Possible Causes:
MAF sensor ground circuit is open
MAF sensor signal is shorted to VREF or system power (B+)
MAF sensor is damaged or has failed

Manifold Air Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input (High Vacuum)


Possible Causes:
MAP sensor 5-volt power circuit open or shorted to ground
MAP sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
MAP sensor is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction

Manifold Air Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input (Low Vacuum)


Possible Causes:
MAP sensor signal circuit is open between sensor and the PCM
MAP sensor ground circuit is open between sensor and ground

MAP sensor is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction

Intake Air Temperature Sensor Signal Performance Fault

IAT sensor connector is damaged, open or shorted
IAT sensor signal circuit has high resistance
IAT sensor ground circuit has high resistance

Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input

IAT sensor connector is damaged or shorted

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Performance Fault


Possible Causes:
ECT sensor connector is damaged, open or shorted
ECT sensor signal circuit has high resistance
ECT sensor has failed
Check the operation of the thermostat (it may be stuck open)
Inspect for low coolant level or an incorrect coolant mixture



Trouble Code: P0117

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input


Possible Causes:
ECT sensor connector is damaged or shorted
ECT sensor signal circuit is shorted to sensor ground
ECT sensor signal circuit is shorted to chassis ground

MAF sensor or TP sensor ground circuit has high resistance
MAF sensor or TP sensor is out-of-calibration

Trouble Code: P0122

Throttle Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction


Possible Causes:
TP sensor connector is damaged, open or shorted
TP sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground (intermittent fault)
TP sensor power circuit is open between sensor and the PCM
TP sensor is damaged or has failed (perform a "sweep" test)
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0123

Throttle Position Sensor Circuit High Input


Possible Causes:
TP sensor connector is damaged, open or shorted
TP sensor signal circuit is open between sensor and the PCM
TP sensor signal circuit is shorted to sensor VREF (5v)
TP sensor ground circuit is open between sensor and the PCM
TP sensor is damaged or has failed (perform a "sweep" test)

Trouble Code: P0125

Insufficient Coolant Temperature For Closed Loop


Possible Causes:
Check the operation of the thermostat (it may be stuck open)
ECT sensor signal circuit has high resistance
ECT sensor has failed
Inspect for low coolant level or an incorrect coolant mixture



Trouble Code: P0131

HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Circuit Low Input


Possible Causes:
HO2S signal ground circuit is open
HO2S is contaminated or has failed
Vehicle driven until it ran out of fuel, or while very low on fuel
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0132

HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Circuit High Input


Possible Causes:
HO2S signal circuit is open or shorted to system power
Fuel supply system is too rich (fuel injector or regulator leaking)
HO2S is contaminated, damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction

Trouble Code: P0133

HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Slow Response


Possible Causes:
Air leaks in the intake manifold or exhaust manifold or pipes
IAT sensor or MAF sensor has deteriorated (out of calibration)
HO2S signal circuit is open or shorted to ground (intermittent)
HO2S contaminated with wrong fuel, has deteriorated or failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0134

HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) No Activity Detected


Possible Causes:
Air leaks in the intake manifold or exhaust manifold or pipes
HO2S is contaminated (wrong fuel), has deteriorated or failed
HO2S heater element is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0135

HO2S-11 (Bank 1 Sensor 1) Heater Circuit Malfunction


Possible Causes:
HO2S connector is damaged, open or shorted
HO2S heater control circuit is open or shorted to ground
HO2S heater power circuit is open (check the IG fuse)
HO2S heater control circuit is shorted to power
HO2S heater is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0136

HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Circuit Low Input


Possible Causes:
HO2S signal circuit open (sensor signal reads over 4.5v)
HO2S is shorted to ground
HO2S signal ground circuit is open
HO2S is contaminated or has failed
Vehicle driven until it ran out of fuel, or while very low on fuel
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0141

HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Heater Circuit Malfunction


Possible Causes:
HO2S heater control circuit is open or shorted to ground
HO2S heater power circuit is open (check the IG fuse)
HO2S heater control circuit is shorted to power
HO2S heater is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0171

Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 1)


Possible Causes:
Air leaks after the MAF sensor, or in the EGR or PCV system
Base engine "mechanical" fault affecting one or more cylinders
Exhaust leaks before or near where the front HO2S is mounted
Fuel control sensor is out of
Fuel delivery system supplying too little fuel during cruise or idle periods
(faulty fuel pump or dirty fuel filter)
Fuel injector (one or more) dirty or pressure regulator has failed

HO2S is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed
Vehicle driven low on fuel or until it ran out of fuel



Trouble Code: P0172

Fuel System Too Rich (Bank 1)


Possible Causes:
Base engine "mechanical" fault affecting one or more cylinders
EVAP system component has failed or canister fuel saturated
Fuel control sensor is out of
Fuel delivery system supplying too much fuel during cruise or idle periods
(faulty fuel pump, or faulty injector)

Fuel injector(s) is leaking or stuck partially open (one or more)
HO2S is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed



Trouble Code: P0300

Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected


Possible Causes:
Air leak in the intake manifold, or in the EGR or PCM system
Base engine mechanical fault that affects one or more cylinders
Fuel delivery component fault that affects one or more cylinders
(one or more contaminated, dirty or
faulty injector)
Ignition system problem (coil or plug) in one or more cylinders




Trouble Code: P0301

Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected


Possible Causes:
Air leak in the intake manifold, or in the EGR or PCM system
Base engine mechanical fault that affects only Cylinder 1
Fuel delivery component fault that affects only Cylinder 1
(contaminated, dirty or sticking
faulty injector)
Ignition system fault (coil or plug) that affects only Cylinder 1




Trouble Code: P0302

Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected


Possible Causes:
Air leak in the intake manifold, or in the EGR or PCM system
Base engine mechanical fault that affects only Cylinder 2
Fuel delivery component fault that affects only Cylinder 2
(contaminated, dirty or sticking faulty injector)

Ignition system fault (coil or plug) that affects only Cylinder 2

Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected

- Knock Sensor Circuit Low Input

- Knock Sensor connector is damaged or shorted
- Knock Sensor signal circuit is shorted to sensor ground
- Knock Sensor signal circuit is shorted to chassis ground
- Knock Sensor is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0328

- Knock Sensor Circuit High Input


Possible Causes:
- Knock Sensor signal circuit open between the sensor and PCM
- Knock Sensor signal circuit is shorted to VREF or system power

- Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

CKP sensor connector is damaged, open or shorted
CKP sensor positive (+) circuit is open or shorted to ground
CKP sensor negative (-) circuit is open or shorted to ground
CKP sensor is damaged or has failed

Trouble Code: P0340

- Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction


Possible Causes:
CMP sensor positive (+) circuit is open or shorted to ground
CMP sensor negative (-) circuit is open or shorted to ground
CMP sensor is damaged or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0401

EGR System Insufficient EGR Flow Detected


Possible Causes:
EGR passage is plugged or restricted (clean, then retest code)
EGR valve is plugged or damaged (may need replacement)
MAP sensor is out of calibration or has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0402

EGR System Excessive EGR Flow Detected


Possible Causes:
EGR valve is sticking (open) or it is damaged (the valve may need replacement)
MAP sensor is out of calibration or it has failed
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0420

Catalyst Efficiency Below Normal (Bank 1)


Possible Causes:
Air leaks at the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust pipes
Catalytic converter is damaged, contaminated or has failed
Front HO2S or rear HO2S is contaminated with fuel or moisture
Front HO2S and/or the rear HO2S is loose in the mounting hole
Front HO2S is older (aged)



Trouble Code: P0441

EVAP System Flow During Non-Purge Conditions


Possible Causes:
Intake passage clogged between canister and intake manifold
EVAP charcoal canister is dirty or severely restricted
EVAP canister purge valve is damaged or the circuit has failed

ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0442

EVAP System Small Leak (0.040") Detected


Possible Causes:
EVAP charcoal canister is loaded with fuel or moisture
EVAP canister air valve has failed, or its circuit is shorted
Fuel tank cap is damaged, leaking or the wrong part number
Fuel tank is cracked (leaking), or a leak exists in the 'O' ring
Fuel level sensor is damaged or has failed
Fuel pressure control valve is damaged or its circuit is shorted
Fuel pressure sensor is damaged or has failed
Fuel vapor line(s), fuel pipes or hoses are damaged or slow leaking
ECM/PCM Powertrain Control Module malfunction



Trouble Code: P0444

EVAP Canister Purge Control Solenoid Circuit Low Input


Possible Causes:
Canister purge solenoid connector is open or shorted to ground
Canister purge solenoid circuit is open or shorted to ground
Canister purge control solenoid is damaged or it has failed
